Arthur (Art) Chancellor Conner, 70 of Wabash, Indiana passed away at 3:55 AM on March 30, 2019 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Illinois. He was born on August 19, 1948 in Lafayette, Indiana, a son of the late Dicken and Bertha Chancellor Conner.
In 1966, he graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. He earned his Bachelors in Music Education and his Master’s Degree in Arts and Music at Ball State University.
He taught music at Wabash High School for thirty-seven years. He is remembered fondly by his students who were inspired by his passion for music and marching band.
He traveled extensively and eagerly shared pictures and adventures from his journeys with family, friends, students and community groups. He achieved his goal of visiting all seven continents. He was always intent upon encouraging others to travel.
He was avidly interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching family members in various libraries throughout the United States.
Upon retirement, Art volunteered at various community organizations including Rotary, The Honeywell Foundation and the Wabash Historical Society. He also continued his world travels.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Samuel and Linda Conner of The Woodlands, Texas; nephew Christopher Conner and his wife Jennifer and their daughters Emmaline and Zoe, also of The Woodlands, Texas.
In addition to his family members, he is survived by many life-long friends, especially his dear and treasured friends Michael and Deborah Sladek of Edwardsville, Illinois and their children Chava (Steve) Wu of Evanston, Illinois; Ember (Andy) Fry of Bothell, Washington; and Frank (Jelena) Sladek of Highwood, Illinois; and their grandchildren Theodore and Grant Wu and Jadon and Kalina Fry. The Sladeks and their children were his gracious caregivers during his illness. Their children and grandchildren called him Uncle Art.
On May 11 at 11:30 AM, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in his honor at The Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana. Visitation will be held prior to the Celebration of Life Service from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
At a later date, his ashes will be entombed in the Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery in Wabash, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to organizations that are focused on ecology, preserving the environment, fostering the love of music, and/or organizations in Wabash that Art supported throughout his years there. Please know that Art would also be honored to know that his family and friends support these causes in non-monetary ways.
