James F. Stille, 84, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born December 2, 1933 in Nameoki Township, Illinois, a son of Elmer and Edna (Fassett) Stille.
Jim married Doris (Hanfelder) Stille on July 17, 1954 and she passed away on April 3, 2014.
Jim served in the United States Army and later delivered propane as he worked his way through college at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He then was employed at Union Electric as a Property Accounting Manager, where he worked for 28 years, retiring in January 1989. After restoring their old farmhouse and soon after retirement, Jim enjoyed giving new life to old things, such as restoring old trunks and painting a beautiful U.S. flag as a tribute to our country on the homestead barn.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lynne Stille of Wood River and John and Carla Stille of Glen Carbon; three grandsons whom he loved dearly, James “Trey” Stille III and fiancé, Katie Burton, Timothy “T.J.” Stille and William Stille; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Ron Joyce; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, June Stille, Charles and Sonja Hanfelder, Joseph Hanfelder, Alice Schuessler, Rita and James Sutton, Margaret Hinkle, Gladys Abernathy, Phyllis and Dale Noble, Bob and Sue Smith and Shirley Hanfelder; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
Jim loved and supported his sons and grandsons and many extended family throughout his life. His grandsons were the light of his life and he supported them throughout all of their endeavors. Jim was also active in many facets in his church life serving as a treasurer amongst various other positions. He loved his family, friends and all of his dear neighbors at Liberty Place.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at the funeral chapel on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend John Roberts officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
Memorials may be made to Eden United Church of Christ, Hospice of Southern Illinois, Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
