Charles Henry “Chuck” Edwards, 93, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home.
He was born September 16, 1924 in Granite City, a son of the late Charles Claude and Georgia (Boyd) Edwards.
He married Marilyn Rose (Jones) Edwards on May 27, 1950 in Staunton and she passed away on November 30, 2010.
The United States veteran joined the Army Air Corp at the end of high school and retired in 1969 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He had served as a pilot with the Air Force serving through World War II, Vietnam and the Korean Wars. After his retirement from the Air Force, he continued his career as a charter pilot with Mid Coast Aviation in Chesterfield being honored to fly many dignitaries, sports figures, musicians and politicians through the years around the world.
He was a member of the Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, Granite City VFW Post and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed target practice, wildlife and nature, his years of flying, dancing and being amongst his friends and family.
He is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Sam) Atkinson of Ellisville, Missouri, Laura (Darrell Williams) Bronnbauer of Granite City and Jill and Barry Jateff of Wildwood, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kelly (Michael) Rommel, Kevin Jateff, Scott Bronnbauer and Ryan Bronnbauer; two great grandchildren, Daisy Rommel and Cooper Bronnbauer; a brother, Bill (Marian) Edwards of Joliet; a brother-in-law, Willard Volentine of Highland; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Johnston and a sister-in-law, Maxine Volentine.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Steven Williams officiating.
Burial will be at a later date at the Bethel Cemetery in Wildwood, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the Granite City V.F.W. Post #1300 and may be accepted at the funeral home.
