Jack Vestal Branch, 70, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:47 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home.
He was born April 25, 1947 in Johnson City, Tennessee, one of seven siblings to Vestal James and Josephine (Humphries) Branch.
He married Claudia L. (Bennett) Branch on May 8, 1972 in Granite City and she survives.
The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Division and was the recipient of four Bronze Stars and other medals and recognitions.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather was affectionately known as “Pop”. He was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. He enjoyed reading and learning history, watching wrestling, gardening and loved nature, animals and the mountains.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 45 years, he is survived by four children, Theresa Ruth Branch, Jason Branch, Jessica Branch and Christine Branch Miller of Granite City; six grandchildren, Tamara Branch, Marissa Copeland, Jonathon Copeland, David Miller, Breahna Miller and Emily Smith; two great grandchildren, Mariana and Malachi; a sister, Louise Terry of Johnson City, Tennessee; two brothers, Tom Lyle of Jonesboro, Tennessee and Carl Branch of Valdese, North Carolina;other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Branche and a sister, Barbara Varnel.
In celebration of his life, graveside services with full military honors will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 12:00 noon.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Branch family and may be accepted at the funeral home.
