Olaf Glenn Johnson, 95, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born September 14, 1922 in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of the late Olaf Otto and Nina (Mooneyham) Johnson.
He married Bernece (Miller) Johnson on August 26, 1950 in Carbondale, Illinois and she survives.
He retired in 1982 from Edwardsville High School after many years of service as a guidance director.
He was a dedicated and faithful member of Esic Baptist Church in Edwardsville. He enjoyed his days of bowling and loved his many world travels along with his wife through his lifetime.
The United States Marine veteran proudly served his country with the Pacific Campaign during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and other medals and recognitions.
In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, he is survived by many special nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Orpha Rothe and his cherished schnauzer, Thor.
In celebration of his life and in accordance to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services to be held.
