Norma J. Darnell, 98 of Granite City, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
Norma was born on April 26, 1919 in Peter Station, Illinois; the daughter of the late Theodore and Anna (Gronemeyer) Wille. Norma was a shipping clerk at Madison Metal Decorating for 40 years and had worked for NESCO as a warehouseman. Norma was a founder and charter member of Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City. She was a member of and state commander of the National Navy Mothers Club of America, where she was elected twice as state president. In her free time, Norma enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times they shared together.
Norma is survived by and will be missed by her son; Victor L. (Nancy) Darnell of Edwardsville, Illinois; her granddaughter, Rachel (Manan) Bazai of Glen Carbon, Illinois; her great-grandchildren, Henna and Suleman Bazai of Glen Carbon, Illinois.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sisters; Hulda Landwehrmier, Eleanor Schiebal, Edna Cauble; her brothers, Roland Wille, Rudolph Wille.
In celebration of Norma’s life, friends may call on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Alan Beuster officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Hope Lutheran Church, 3715 Wabash Ave., Granite City, Illinois 62040.
