Norma Lee Rains, 80 of Collinsville, IL passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Norma was born on March 29, 1937 in Granite City, IL; the daughter of the late Willis John and Lydia Irene (Rhine) Basden. In her early years, Norma worked for Swift and Company as well as Manpower in St. Louis. She dedicated her life to Jesus and was a 50 year member of Gracepoint Church in Granite City. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and preparing for family holidays. Norma loved to travel and went on many cruises with her family and friends. But most of all she loved Jesus and her family. Norma will be remembered for her kind spirit and the many special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Dale Rains, whom she married on June 26, 1954; her children, Debra (Rex) Drown of O'Fallon, IL, Garry (Stella) Rains of O'Fallon, IL, Cheryl (Jerry) Giffhorn of Collinsville, IL, Keith (Julie) Rains of Glen Carbon, IL; her grandchildren, Jeremy Pense, Tiffany (Derek) Kirby, Trisha (Tom) Brawand, Justin (Jennifer) Rains, Christopher Drown, Kristi (Jason) Sutter, Daniel (Julie) Drown, Matthew Rains, Derek Knight, Joshua Rains, Ashlyn and fiance' (Sean Theis), Alexander Rains and fiance' (Kelli Buhrmann); 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, John (Shirley) Basden; her brother-in-law, Benny (Frances) Rains.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Gene (Bert) Basden; her sisters-in-law, Donna Mae Tuttle and Alta Varnier.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gracepoint Church, 2450 Pontoon Road in Granite City. In celebration of Norma's life, services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Gracepoint Church with Pastor T.L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville. Memorials are suggested to Gracepoint Church. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.
