Mary D. Urioste, 80, of Madison, Illinois passed away at 1:16 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born November 21, 1936 in Sante Fe, New Mexico, a daughter of the late Samuel and Emma Ernestina (Valdez) Griego.
She married Felix J. Urioste on March 2, 1955 in Alamosa, Colorado and he survives.
She and her husband owned and operated Mr. Twist Ice Cream and Sherbert on Madison Avenue in Granite City with 40 years of devoted and loving service to the community.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison and enjoyed her days of cooking.
She will be remembered for the love to her family, customers and employees, many whom she had touched and guided through the years.
In addition to her beloved husband of 62 years, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lijing Urioste of Madison; a daughter, Felicia Urioste of Granite City; four grandchildren, Dominic Urioste, Alex Urioste, Michael Urioste Jr. and Nichole Dotson; two great grandchildren, Evan Werner and Hayden; four sisters, Ida Brown of Dallas, Texas, Irene Palmer of Dallas, Texas, Molly Chavez of Sante Fe, New Mexico and Carmen Lee of Alamosa, Colorado; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Tony Griego of Sante Fe, New Mexico and James and Mary Griego of Alamosa, Colorado; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Michael A. Urioste and Mark S. Urioste; a grandson, Matthew Urioste; two sisters, Helen Cassadeos and Viola Fisher and a brother, Sam Griego.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to Shriner's Hospital for Children and may be accepted at the funeral home.
