James Holland, age 92, of Maryville, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Granite Nursing and Rehab Center. James was born on April 17, 1921 in Camden, TN, a son to the late Earl and Cora (Presson) Holland.
On May 5, 1939, James married Audrey Young, the love of his life and she preceded him in death on May 3, 1998. He was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle Church in Granite City, IL. James had worked at General Steel Industries as a foreman; he also worked as a lumberjack, carpenter, apartment manager and a Walmart greeter. He enjoyed cooking and loved to sing and play the harmonica. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. James will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jean Holland; son, Jimmie Holland; brother, Earl Holland Jr.; and his sister, Mary Guess.
James is survived by his loving children, Bonnie (Tom) Miller of Granite City, IL, Judy (Bob) Mullins of St. Charles, MO and Dennis (Mary) Holland Sr. of Granite City, IL; half brother, Jerry Holland of Camden, TN; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL with Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
