Deacon William J. Maurer 69, of Troy, IL passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. William was born on December 29, 1942 in Chicago, IL. He was the long time Development Director for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy. William was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy where he served as a deacon. He was ordained on April 28, 1996, incardinated to the diocese of Springfield from the former Archdiocese of Chicago as a deacon; also served as deacon at Infant Jesus of Prague Church in Flossmoor, IL from April 1996 to August 2003; then became the permanent deacon at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, IL.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Marcia (Schicht) Maurer, whom he married on December 19, 1970 in Riverdale, IL; son, Christopher & (Rinko) Maurer of Chicago, IL; brother, Charles "Bud" & (MaryLou) Maurer of Washington; sister, Ruth & (Lou) Jurewicz of Philadelphia, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. He was preceded by his parents; Charles & Cecilia (Kessler) Maurer; 4 sisters, Mary Maurer, Charlene Bieschke, Dolores Barber, Therese Maurer.
In celebration of his life a visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at which time the procession will leave for the mass celebration at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Pat Jakel officiating at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 511 S. Main St. in Troy, IL. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Black Jack Cemetery in Troy, IL. In memory of William memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
