George W. Roethemeyer Sr. 60, of Greenville, IL formerly of Granite City passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Gateway Regional Medical Center. George was born on April 26, 1952 in Granite City. He was an overhead crane operator at Granite City Steel for over 41 years. George was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Reserves. He loved to work and stay busy, especially enjoying his backhoe, trencher and other tools at home. He loved to be outside where he spent many hours hunting and fishing. George was looking forward to his retirement and just being at home with his family.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Marlene (Feltmeyer) Roethemeyer, whom he married on February 29, 1980; his mom, Delores "Dee" (Graf) Roethemeyer of Granite City; son, George W. Roethemeyer Jr. of Granite City; grandchildren, Lauren Roethemeyer of Granite City, Owen Roethemeyer of Granite City; sister, Nancy & (Bob) Jacobs of Florissant, MO and numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews and many extended family members and friends.
In celebration of his life a memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City with a service to begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Karla Frost officiating. Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ or the charity of ones choice.
