Neal Burns, 80 of Granite City passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Granite City. Neal was born on September 14, 1931 in Winona, MO. He retired in February 1992 from Granite City Steel after over 40 years of dedicated service on the pickle line. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, was a life time member of the V.F.W. Post 1300, life time member of the American Legion Post 113 and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by and will be missed by his daughters; Diana & (Dennis) Hardesty of Granite City, Kimberly & (David) Pierson of Granite City; 4 grandchildren, Chaz Hardesty of Granite City, Andrew Hardesty of Granite City, Dylan Pierson of Granite City, Dawson Pierson of Granite City; one great grandson, Tyler Pierson of Granite City; sister, Velma Spivey of Madison, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas "Guy" & Sylvia Jewell (Swigert) Burns; grandson, Dustin "Duddy" Pierson.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Southern Illinois Hospice.
