John F. Love, 66, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at his home. He was born January 28, 1946 in Granite City, a son of the late Harold W. and Mary Jane (McMahon) Love. He married Joan M. (Blankenship) Love on November 7, 1970 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and she survives.
He retired as a pile driver in 1998 after 37 years of dedicated service with the Carpenter's Local #377 in East Alton. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Granite City and enjoyed his days of playing pool and poker and woodworking. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Kimberly Love of Granite City; one daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Josh Peters of Granite City; three grandsons, Brendan Love, Aidan Love and Evan Peters; one brother, Roger and Connie Love of Cahokia; two sisters, Deborah and Jim Grote of Granite City and Roxanne Burrell of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Margie Love of Granite City; brother-in-law, Jim and Marcia Blankenship of Granite City; sister-in-law, Theresa Jansen of Powder Springs, Georgia; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Ray Love.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Roy Boyer officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
