Walter “Wally” M. Lewis, age 78, of Troy, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Aspen Creek Memory Care in Troy, IL. Wally was born on April 28, 1941 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Lloyd Lewis and Mary Ellen (Woodsworth) Lewis.
On August 3, 1959, Wally married Roberta Modglin, his high school sweetheart in East St. Louis, IL. Wally retired from Union Electric (Ameren) after thirty-eight years of dedicated service. He was a member of Unity Church in Granite City, IL. Wally enjoyed hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. Wally loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Walt Ordway.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Roberta Lewis of Troy, IL; loving children, Cheryl (John) Reisenleiter of Granite City, IL, Christine Ordway of Holts Summit, MO and Michael (Robin) Lewis of Staunton, IL; proud grandfather to Brooke Streicher of Bethalto, IL, Jennifer (Newton) Tilson of Granite City, IL, Kyle (Tiffany) Hoelscher of Baytown, TX, Cole (Raks) Hoelscher of Santa Rosa, CA, Madilyn (Jason) Hill of Marine, IL, Jacob (Abbie Peterson) Lewis of Naples, FL, Tyler (Karly) Seago of Collinsville, IL and Tori Seago of Staunton, IL; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way in October; one great-great-grandchild on the way in September; extended family and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Irwin Chapel, with Pastor Jason Fishburn officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Unity Church in Granite City, IL or to St. Johns Adult Day Care in Collinsville, IL. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
