Anthony J. “Tony” Vesci Sr. of Maryville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:02 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville at the age of 79.
He was born May 3, 1939 in Granite City, a son of the late Anthony and Florence (Clyde) Vesci.
He married Linda L. (Bess) Vesci on October 5, 1956 in Corinth, Mississippi and she survives.
Tony owned and operated Vesci Inc. from 1956 until 2007 with 51 years of service in the beer distribution industry. He was an entrepreneur throughout his life, working as a developer and contractor here in our area and also in the Lake of the Ozarks.
Tony gave back to his community working with many organizations including the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Jaycees and contributed to many charities and other organizations throughout the years. He enjoyed his days of boating, swimming, motocycle riding, playing the piano and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity in always willing to help others and cherished the love and special times he shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 61 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony J. and Mary L. Vesci Jr. of Glen Carbon and Ralph M. and Robin E. Vesci of Maryville; two grandchildren, Michael Vesci and Anthony Vesci; three great grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan and Bennett; a sister, Janet Taylor of Fort Wayne, Indiana; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Vesci; a granddaughter, Michelle Vesci and his brother, George “Buddy” Vesci.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 155 North Main Street in Glen Carbon on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Father Steve Pohlman, former pastor of St. Cecilia will be celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.
