Sylvia Yolanda Wright, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:12 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City.
She was born May 8, 1923 in Stewart County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Luther C. Wallace Sr. and Bessie L. (Ford) Wallace.
She retired from Midwest Draperies in St. Louis after many years of her dedicated talent as a seamstress. She had also worked many years at The Garment Company of St. Louis and was a proud to have been a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was very active and dedicated for many years with the Business and Professional Women in Granite City where she had served as President in 1976. She had worked at the small arms plant in St. Louis. She enjoyed her days of sewing and crafts and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lynn A. and Dee Wright of Granite City; four grandchildren, Eric Wright of Granite City, Jenna Wright of Columbus, Ohio, Rex Wright of Chicago and Craig and Courtney Wright of Granite City; two great grandchildren, Carlee Jo Wright and Jackson S. Wright; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert M. and Glenna Wallace of Granite City and Lee W. and Ellen Wallace of Collinsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Marion Davis of Bethalto and Faye C. and Ronald Edwards of Piedmont, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Faye Wallace of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence R. Wallace, Maurice F. Wallace and Luther C. Wallace Jr. and one sister, Ruby Nell Boettcher.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles West officiating.
Inurnment will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Susan G. Koman Foundation and may be accepted at the funeral home.
