Sylvia L. Winters, 88 of Granite City passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Sylvia was born on November 29, 1925 in Madison, IL, a daughter to the late Dewey and Myrtle (Hudson) Creighton. She was a long time executive secretary to the president at Granite City Steel and a member of Suburban Baptist Church. In her free time she enjoyed bowling and spending time with her husband. She will be remembered for her kind heart and the special times she shared with her family.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband; James L. Winters, whom she married on June 15, 1963; sister, Doris Schmidt; nephew, Shawn Schmidt; nieces, Carol Smith, Pam Welsh, Janet Erwin, Donna Mullins, Linda Hornbeck, Denise Mason, Mary Cox, Sally Cox Manush, Trisha Allen, Elizabeth Winters Ammann.
In addition to her Parents she was preceded in death by her brothers; Henry and Lewis Creighton and a nephew, Mark Winters.
In celebration of her life friends may call on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Suburban Baptist Church, 2500 St. Clair Ave., Granite City, IL 62040.
