Sylvia L. Vilmer, 82 of Granite City passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sylvia was born on September 9, 1935 in Laredo, Texas. Sylvia was a life long homemaker and mom who took great pride in taking care of her family. She attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, Illinois and in her free time she enjoyed working in her garden taking care of her flowers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sylvia is survived by and will be missed by her children; Frank (Stephanie) Vilmer of Granite City, Illinois, Scott Vilmer (Tonya Manninger) of Granite City, Illinois, Brian Vilmer (Kimberly Smith) of Granite City, Illinois; her grandchildren, Scott (Elaine), Nickolette, Jesse, Lydia, Allyson, Brendan, Alex, Jake, Andrew; her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Jackson, Kennedi, Penelope, Aria; her sister, Gloria Carrizales of Dallas, Texas.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband; Frank S. Vilmer; her mom; Maxine (Mejia) Medina and her brother, Pablo Mejia.
Friends may call on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Sylvia’s life, services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Zachary Edgar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to the American Stroke Association or the American Heart Association.
