Stanislaus “Stan” Stimac, age 96, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Fountain View Manor, Granite City, IL. Stan was born on March 25, 1921 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Mance) Stimac.
Stan was a World War II veteran who proudly served with the 187th Airborne, receiving two purple hearts. On September 4, 1942, Stan married Violet Measki, the love of his life at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City, IL and Violet passed away on February 5, 2008. Stan was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, past president of the Kiwanis in Glen Carbon, IL and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Edwardsville, IL. He had retired from Erhardt Tool & Machine Company as a machinist / tool maker in North St. Louis, MO, after many years of dedicated service. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later in life, Stan enjoyed attending his grandson’s athletic events and his granddaughter’s dance recitals. Stan will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Stan was preceded in death by brothers Louis, Rudy and Charlie Stimac.
He is survived by his loving children, Alan Stimac of Chicago, IL and Tess (Larry) Schwarberg of Park Forest, IL; proud grandfather to Ryan (Alison) Stimac and Erica (Kevin) Gabel both of Marietta, GA; proud great-grandfather to Aubrey Stimac, Delaney Stimac, Riley Stimac, Jackson Gabel, Patrick Gabel and one great-granddaughter on the way in January; extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of his life, a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Glen Carbon, IL, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.
Stan will be laid to rest next to Violet at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given in the form of masses or to the Alzheimer’s Association; donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
