Shelby "Shelly" Jean Bakken, 72, of Collinsville, Illinois passed away at 11:08 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. She was born March 4, 1940 in Kennett, Missouri, a daughter of Evelyn (Stockton) Trigg of White Oak, Missouri and the late Herman Trigg.
She married Charles "Chuck" Bakken on December 22, 1988 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, Illinois and he survives.
She was a receptionist at Reinholdt Gardner Brokerage Firm in St. Louis, Missouri and an active member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville.
She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She possessed a beautiful voice and shared her gift of music with those she loved.
In addition to her beloved husband and mother, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Monty Jones and Deidre Davenport of Weddington, North Carolina; one daughter and her fiancé, Kym Jones and James Cowins of Ironton, Missouri; step-daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Steve Finn of Collinsville; step-son, Dan Bakken of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lewis Trigg of St. Louis and Ron and Diane Trigg of Collinsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Deonna and Paul Cristel of Troy, Illinois; five grandchildren Miranda Foster, Melissa Smith, Matt Powell, Amanda McCallister and Perri Jones; three great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Madelyn, and Kendon; five nephews, four nieces; five great-nieces; five great-nephews; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of her life, a memorial funeral mass will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Sotiroff as celebrant followed by burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. A memorial luncheon at the church fellowship hall will follow the inurnment at the cemetery.
