Ronald "Ron" Lee Williams, age 79, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Eden Village, Glen Carbon, IL. Ron was born on December 16, 1936 in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Isaac "Ike" Williams and Veda (Cochran) Williams.
Ron was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country. On October 3, 1959, Ron married Rebecca Sanders, the love of his life in Virginia. He had retired from the Alton Southern Railroad as a conductor after many years of dedicated service. Ron was a member of Granite City Masonic Lodge #877, Shriner at Ainad Temple in East St. Louis, IL and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Southern Illinois Court #86. He enjoyed fishing and Ron was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren, whom he was very proud of. Ron will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, Gene and Jimmy Williams.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Williams of Granite City, IL; loving children, Doug (Linda) Williams of Fulton, MO, Karen (Greg) Ely of Maryville, IL and Art (Stacey) Williams of Troy, IL; proud grandfather to Ike, Nicole, Alexis and Holly; many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, with Rev. Ward Sussenbach officiating. Granite City, IL. Interment with military honors will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children or to Alzheimer's Association and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
