Ronald D. Galbraith, 79 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Ronald was born on December 3, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois; the son of the late James and Myrtle (Greene) Galbraith. Ronald worked for Alton & Southern Railroad, retiring after 40 years of service as a conductor and a switchman. Ronald enjoyed his days attending railroad retirement banquets and being active in the railroad union. Most of all Ronald loved to spend time with his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
He is survived by and will be missed by his daughters; LeAnn Gergen (Roger Mouser) of Granite City, Illinois, Susan (Richard) Wurm of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Travis Gergen of Granite City, Illinois, Kirsten Wurm of St. Louis, Missouri, Carl Wurm of St. Louis, Missouri; his sisters, Carolyn Smith, Phyllis (Phil) Francious.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife; Marilyn (Cowger) Galbraith, whom he married on April 2, 1960; his son-in-law, Christopher Gergen; his brother, Bob Galbraith; his brother-in-law, Tom Smith.
In celebration of Ronald’s life, visitation will begin on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Clint Wisdom officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
