Ronald A. York Sr., 62 of Litchfield, IL formerly of Granite City passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. John Hospital in Springfield. Ronald was born on January 19, 1952 in Granite City, a son to the late Thomas and Imogene (Wallace) York.
Ronald was an electrician for over 25 years for U.S. Steel before his retirement in 2012.The U.S. Navy veteran proudly served his country earning the National Defense Service Medal. His passion was the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his large garden. He enjoyed cooking, especially for his family. He will be remembered for his kind heart and the many special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Toni (Yannone) York, whom he married on April 29, 1972; daughter, Bridgette and (Roger) Boyer of Granite City; son, Ronald A. and (Dawn) York Jr. of Imperial, MO; grandchildren, Anthony York, Zachary Boyer, Kayla Boyer, Joseph Boyer, Renee Boyer, Brittany Copeland, Zac Copeland, Madison Dieker, Lauren Dieker; great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Simpson, Carleigh Simpson; brother, Bob and (Donna) York; sisters, Norma and (Norman) Martinez, Patricia and (Herman) Schubert.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother; Tom "Buzz" York Jr. and his granddaughter, Victoria Boyer.
In celebration of his life friends may call on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City with a service to begin at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Revisky officiating. Burial will follow with the family meeting at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 to process to Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon for a graveside service with military rites at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Jones officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family.
