Obituary

Robert L. Fry Sr., 70 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Robert was born on May 6, 1947 in Granite City, Illinois; a son of the late Tom and Virginia Jackie (Waterman) Fry. Robert was a union carpenter working for the Carpenters Local 633 and 664. He attended Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City and just loved to do anything outside. Robert enjoyed his days of golfing, camping and fishing and being the “Captain” of his boat. He and his wife Vickie enjoyed spending time dancing and listening to music. Robert was a member of Bubble Masters where he learned how to Scuba Dive. Robert loved people and his outgoing personality allowed him to never meet a stranger. But most of all Robert loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Robert will be remembered for his outgoing personality, kind heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by and will be missed by his wife and soul mate whom he married on October 2, 2004 and were together for 21 years; Vickie (Pruett) Fry; his children, Rob (Christina) Fry Jr. of Worden, Illinois, Tim (Jill) Smith of Wildwood, Missouri, Krista Fry and fiance’ (Paul Soliben) of Edwardsville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Tate Dycus of Edwardsville, Illinois, Austin Jackels of Worden, Illinois, Emilie Fry of Worden, Illinois, Audrey Smith of Wildwood, Missouri, Maddie Soliben of Edwardsville, Illinois, Lily Smith of Wildwood, Missouri, Megan Fry of Worden, Illinois, Isabella Soliben of Edwardsville, Illinois; his step-mom, Gertrude Fry of Sorento, Illinois; his brothers and sisters, Michael (Rita) Fry of Missouri, Jeff (Meta) Fry of Sorento, Illinois, Rosa (Melvin) Mollet of Hillsboro, Illinois, Harold (Melinda) Fry of North Dakota and numerous, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Friends may call on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Robert’s life, services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Fry officiating. Memorials in Robert’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
