Robert "Bob" Wilhite, age 79, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville, IL, with his loving family by his side. Bob was born on April 15, 1934 in St. Louis, MO, a son to the late Everett and Ruth (Gulick) Wilhite.
Bob was a United States Navy veteran who proudly served his country. He then attended and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. On December 8, 1972, Bob married Janet Hart, the love of his life at Central Christian Church in Granite City, IL. He had retired from the Federal Government as a contracting officer in 1995 after many years of dedicated service. Bob was a member of Central Christian Church in Granite City, IL. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Bob will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his step-mother, Evelyn Wilhite; brother, Jim Wilhite; sister, Patsy Bare; half brother, Kenneth Wilhite; and half sister, Sandra Schumacher.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Janet Wilhite of Glen Carbon, IL; five dear children, Jason (Lorraine) Wilhite, Jennifer (Bill) Mullen, Susan (Randy) Coffey, Lori (Jerry) Weber and Dana (Bruce) Patton; loving grandfather to Wesley and Chad Wilhite, Robert and Allen Mullen, Stephanie Mullen, Amanda Lutes, Andrew Weber, Courtney Patton and Samantha (JJ) Quint; two half sisters, Mary Ann Hilty and Anna Wilhite; half brother, Larry Wilhite; two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Lynn Cook and Brenda Bewley; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL, with Pastor Derrell Brame officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL
