Richard "Dick" Earl Awalt, Sr., 72 of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012 at his home. Dick was born on January 10, 1940 in East St. Louis, IL, a son to the late Claude Earl and Bernice (Lawanas) Awalt.
Dick had retired from the Operating Engineers Local 520, Granite City, IL. He was also a 50 years member of Local 520. On April 2, 1983, Dick married Priscilla Howland, the love of his life in Granite City, IL. Dick enjoyed working in his yard, watching humming birds and loved going fishing with his wife. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla Awalt; five wonderful children, Lesa (Johnny) Childers of Granite City, IL, Richard Earl (Hope) Awalt Jr., of Hazelwood, MO, Jeffery (Melissa) Awalt of Granite City, IL, William Blakeburn of Greenville, IL and Chris (Karen) Blakeburn of Granite City, IL; four granddaughters; three great grandchildren; five sisters in law and many dear friends.
Visitation: friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Irwin Chapel with Pastor Henry Crippen officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Heartland Hospice or Salvation Army, Granite City, IL, and will be accepted at the funeral chapel. irwinchapel.com
