Raymond Michael “Ray” Nelson, 58, of Granite City and formerly of Bethalto, Illinois passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born February 14, 1959 in Granite City, a son of the late William “Bill” and Irene C. (Leber) Nelson.
Ray married Angela (Sutton) Nelson on May 29, 1993 in Missouri and she survives.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local #618 and had worked many years for the Dial Corporation.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. Ray lived his life to the fullest and cherished his grandchildren. He enjoyed working on cars, riding his motorcycle, taking trips in his RV, and visiting many state parks throughout the years. Ray had a special love of Oates, Missouri where he enjoyed his farm and visiting his many friends with the Locust Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his beloved wife of 24 years, he is survived by three children, Tony and wife, Tasha Nelson of Kirksville, Missouri, Kristine Mills of Granite City and Lee Nelson of Granite City; two grandchildren, Alexia Leasure and Bradyn Michael Nelson; five siblings and spouses, Carol and Wayne Klinger of Glen Carbon, Ken and Leisa Nelson of North Carolina, Janet and Steve Doty of Granite City, Jack Nelson of Granite City and Joe and Marsha Nelson of Vienna; a brother-in-law, Dennis Sutton of Granite City; a sister-in-law, Jennifer and husband, Steve Fourcault of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; his beloved dog, Lisa; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Nelson.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to The Nelson Family and may be accepted at the funeral home.
