Raymond E. Williamson, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:39 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born June 15, 1926 in Granite City, a son of the late Raymond L. and Edna (Allison) Williamson.
He married Helen Veronica (Luttell) Williamson on July 30, 1949 at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City and she preceded him in death on December 24, 2009.
He retired from Carter Carburetor in St. Louis and had also worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Universal Match in St. Louis, Lockheed Martin in Georgia and Grumman in New York with many years of service as an engineer.
The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during World War II. He was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where he served as a usher and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council #1098 in Granite City.
He enjoyed his days of golfing and will be remembered for his love and dedication and the special times shared with his family.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael D. Williamson of Granite City and Robert and Judith Williamson of Valparaiso, Indiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann and Gregory Jones of Glen Carbon and Donna and Chuck Enzwiler of Granite City; six grandchildren, Timothy Williamson, Cathleen Williamson, Lauren Jones, Evan Jones, Chris Enzwiler and Sean Enzwiler; six great grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Ella Enzwiler, Timothy Patrick and Robert Louis Williamson and Landon Jones; one brother, Jerry Williamson of St. Louis; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irma Wolcott.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 12:00 noon with Father Chris Comerford as celebrant. Knights of Columbus Chalice Presentation will be during the mass.
Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville with military honors.
