Raymond E. "Pete" Allen, 94, of Edwardsville and formerly of Granite City passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at University Nursing and Rehabilitation in Edwardsville. He was born April 11, 1917 in Piedmont, Missouri, a son of the late Obert Devere and Mamie (Ballard) Allen.
He retired from Granite City Steel and proudly served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge #877 and enjoyed his days of bowling, golfing, country line dancing, collecting gadgets and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Tyler) Allen whom preceded him in death in 1993 and three sisters, Eula Wickey, Lucille Basden and Edna Rider. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Brad) Werths of Edwardsville; stepchildren, Celia (Noble) Lomax of Union, Missouri, Fred (Jane) Ybarra of Reeds Spring, Missouri and Joe (Jennifer) Ybarra of Stoughton, Wisconsin; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; special friend and companion, Jane Duncan of Granite City; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Rick Hodshire officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville or to SSM Hospice of Illinois and may be accepted at the funeral home.
