Ray Ashcraft, 86 of Edwardsville passed from this life on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at his home. Ray was born on February 9, 1925 in Eagarville, IL, the son of the late John Henry & Trifena (Poe) Ashcraft. He married Angeline Robeff on March 13, 1949 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Granite City. He is survived by and will be missed by three daughters; Christy & (John) Walter of Granite City, Becca & (Greg) Becker of Edwardsville, Angela Cook of Barnhart, MO; two sons, Robert & (Shirley) Ashcraft of Hilliard, OH, Paul & (Christine) Ashcraft of Sugarland, TX. 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers & 2 sisters. He was a loving husband and father of five children. Ray was employed as a meat cutter for Tri City Grocery for 40 years. He was a member of the local meat cutters union, member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. In celebration of his life a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Niedringhaus United Methodist Church, 1311 20th St. in Granite City with Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating. According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the church. Irwin Chapel in Granite City is in charge of the arrangements.
