Paul Joseph “Joe” Riggins, 66, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018.

He was born March 19, 1951, in Granite City, Illinois, to Charles “Bill” and Catherine June (Stack) Riggins. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Granite City High School. He was a journeyman electrician who joined IBEW Local 309 in 1973, retiring in 2006.

Joe is survived by three children: Heather (Brent) Korte of Highland, Matthew (Jenny) Riggins of St. Louis, Mo, and Whitney (Marty) Landmann of Alhambra; and four grandchildren: Ashlynn and Brenden Korte, Lucas Riggins, and Mackenzie Landmann. He has three sisters: Mary Lou Davis of Tamms, IL, Cathy Evans of Glen Carbon, Patty Riggins of Edwardsville, and two brothers: John Riggins and Kevin Riggins of Edwardsville.

He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews: Terry Riggins of Loda, IL and David (Debbie) Riggins of Granite City; Angela (Tim) Bramstedt of Glen Carbon and Maggie Evans (Paul Linden) of Minneapolis, MN; Emilie Shaw and Natalie Riggins of Edwardsville; and Dalton Riggins of St. Charles, MO; ten great-nieces/nephews; and numerous extended family and friends,

He was preceded in death by his son Sean Patrick (2011); parents Bill (1992) and June (2013) Riggins; brothers Charles Jr. (December 2016), and William K. “Billy” (February 2016); grandparents Herman and Myrtha (Weston) Riggins and Isabelle (Kobel) and William Stack; as well as his niece Della Riggins.

Joe was a hard worker and skilled craftsman. He built two houses for his own family and helped other family and friends with various updates, renovations, and repairs. He was the electrical inspector in Grant Fork for several years, a Crafts Certification instructor for IBEW Local 309, and worked through the Local with Collinsville High School’s Habitat for Humanity project. Joe was an avid deer hunter and kept a trailer in Scott County where his family and friends hunted for over thirty years.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Illinois, on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held there on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
