Opal L. Allen, 80 of Collinsville, IL passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville with her family by her side.
Opal was born on November 1, 1933 in Ripley, Mississippi, a daughter to the late Herman "Dot" and Pearl (Lumpkin) Bridges Singleton. Opal was a long time housekeeper for many area residents and a member of Good Samaritan Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville. She will be remembered for her kind and loving heart and the many special time she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law; Carol Carr (Stroud) and (Arlie L. Carr Jr.) of Hamel, IL; her son and fiance', Randy Stroud and (Kathy Powers) of Moberly, MO; son, Allen Stroud of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Jason and (Stacey) Stroud, Rebecca L. (Carr) Endsley and husband (David), Arlie "Jack" Carr III, Tina Stroud, Kim Stroud, Jeremy Stroud; sisters, Shirley Bunch, Roberta Sue Gentle; numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband; Jewel Stroud; her second husband, Dean Allen; her son, Charles Stroud; brother, Jack Bridges; sisters, Francis Hollis, Ola M. Taylor, Ruth Ann Gandy.
Friends may call on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. In celebration of her life services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
