Opal Boyett, nee-Mauldin, 92, formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away in Boynton Beach,
Florida on Saturday, May 4, 2019. She was born on October 8, 1926 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, a
daughter of the late Robert O. and Bessie (Mallady) Mauldin. She retired in December 2001
from St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Granite City as a Personnel Records Clerk after 19 years of
dedicated service. Mrs. Boyett had previously worked at General American Life Insurance
Company in St. Louis, Missouri from 1946 until 1954, and Underwriter’s Adjusting Company
from 1958 until 1982. Opal enjoyed spending time with family and friends, baking, maintaining her
home, and planning and enjoying her summer flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Boyett of West Palm Beach, Florida; Wendy (Boyett)
Hays and son-in law Todd Hays of Sparta, Illinois; son Richard Boyett and partner Kris Irby of
Boynton Beach, Florida; granddaughter Daphne Richardson of O’Fallon, Illinois; and sister
Helen (Mauldin) Birdsong and brother-in-law Fred Birdsong; numerous nieces and nephews
and other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Gordon Boyett;
two brothers, Orlan Mauldin and Robert Mauldin, and two half-brothers, Paul Mauldin and
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City
from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 where funeral services will be held on Friday,
May 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Clint Wisdom officiating. Graveside services will be held at
Bernie City Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
