Melba Marie Vernon 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Melba was born on November 30, 1925 in Madison, Illinois; the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Mildred L. (Stevens) Miller. Melba was a nurse at Colonnades Nursing Home in Granite City and was a faithful member of Bethel Chapel in Granite City. Melba loved the Lord and her family and spent her life serving both. Melba will be remembered for the love of her family and all the special times they shared together.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughters; Lisa (Craig) Whitacre of Granite City, Illinois, Rosemary Perez of Silver Springs, Florida; her grandchildren, David Perez and fiancé, Sandra, Shiree Bartlett and fiancé, Tony, Caleb (Sarah) Whitacre, Matthew Jerashen and wife, Mary and Logan Whitacre; her great-grandchildren, Seth, Austin, Matthew, Gabrielle, Aiden, Noah, Selene, Isabella; her brothers, Donald, Jack; her sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Peggy.
In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by her husband; James Vernon, whom she married on May 1, 1965;her daughter, Karen Sue Gisher; her brothers, James, Dale; her sisters, Eretta, Betty, Norma Jean.
Friends may call on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bethel Chapel, 2445 Ohio Ave., in Granite City, IL. In celebration of Melba’s life, services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor David Brimm officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Chapel or Family Hospice.
