Marlene J. Woodside, age 86, of Granite City, IL, passed away on December 20, 2017. Marlene was born on November 30, 1931 in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Horace and Vivian (Crum) Shanks.
Marlene was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. She graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She retired after thirty-six years of dedicated service as a registered nurse. On June 5, 1976, Marlene married Frank Woodside, at St. Francis Xavier College Church in St. Louis, MO. Frank passed away on June 8, 2007.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her sister, Irma (Shanks) Lasky; brothers, Perry, Thomas, Jesse and Leonard Shanks; sister-in-law, Claire Shanks; nephews, Marc Lasky and Tom Shanks.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Daphene Shanks, niece, Linden (Jim) Linndemann, nephew, Rev. Michael (Susanne) Lasky. There are numerous, nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, but four nieces must be given special mention for all the many things they have helped me with, or done for me; Virginia (Carroll) Sanders, Patricia (Jerry) Greten, Janet Place and Susanne (Michael) Lasky. My life has been filled with exciting adventures.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of her life, a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, IL, with Father Jeff Holtman officiating. Marlene will be laid to rest next to Frank at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery, Todds Mill, IL
Memorial donations may be given to Holy Family Catholic Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
