Marjorie Ann Austin, age 83, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Christian Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Marjorie was born on November 18, 1934 in Salem, IL, a daughter of the late Kelly Coil and Lucille Alyeen (Tyler) Coil.
On July 5, 1952, Marjorie married Waymon Eugene Austin, the love of her life, in Keense, IL and Waymon passed away on December 8, 1997. Marjorie had retired as a Federal employee from the U.S. Army after thirty-seven years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. She was also very active in supporting missionary work that the church sponsored. Marjorie enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she adored. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her son, Bryan Austin; and by her brother, Bernard Coil.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Austin of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to Kellie (Gary Owens) Gregory of Wood River, IL and Katherine (Gregory) Sipes of Converse, TX; proud great-grandmother to Tiyler Gregory-Sipes, Marley Sipes, Willis Sipes, Russel Sipes, Austin Sipes and Colin Owens, extended family and many dear friends.
Visitations will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. A second visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Panther Fork Baptist Church, Texico, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Bryan Austin officiating. Marjorie will be laid to rest next to Waymon at Panther Fork Baptist Cemetery, Texico, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to American Heart Association or to American Diabetes Association.
