Margaret Ann Louise "Marge" Williams, 79, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Village North Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born February 20, 1933 in Carbondale, a daughter of the late Milo E. and Mary M. (Groaning) Thomas.
She married Garnett W. "Cotton" Williams on September 14, 1951 in Granite City and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2007.
She was a seamstress and had worked for Schermers Men and Boys Shop in Granite City for many years and had many years of sewing and making clothes out of her home. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City. She enjoyed her days of crocheting, quilting, painting, canning and fishing and the activities at Village North where she loved to work with ceramics. She was loved by all and will be remembered for her everlasting smile and the special times shared with her daughters and grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters, Shirley A. (Jim) Haas of Trenton, Kathy J. (Joel) Boyce of Willamina, Oregon, Rita S. (James) Hearn of Granite City, Karen L. (Steve) Trask of Granite City and Linda J. (Glen) Winter of Granite City; twenty-one grandchildren, Mark (Val), Terri (Caleb), David, Andrew, Melissa (Rich), Michael, Jennifer, Heather, Eric (Laura), Katie, Kimmy, Kristen (Shawn), Josh (Savolia), Jessica, Andrea (Andrew) Steven, Stacie (Dave), Kyle (Courtney), Jackie, Jake and Nick; eleven great-grandchildren, Adam, Noah, Chloe, Caden, Richie, Harlan, Colton, Adie, Kenzie, Madi and Aiden; seven brothers and sisters, Gene (Naomi) Thomas of Granite City, Dottie (Lin) Spicer of Granite City, Ed (Carolyn) Thomas of Granite City, Mauri Dickey of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jack (Diane) Thomas of Granite City, Carol (Russ) Blomquist of Mobile, Alabama and Charlie Thomas of Granite City; sister-in-law, Glenda (Jerry) Pepper of Cadiz, Kentucky; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Grace Baptist Church, 2600 Edwards Street in Granite City on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John Gamblin officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to Sand Mountain Bible Camp Disaster Relief Fund, Grace Baptist Church Building Fund or to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
