Louise Beatrice Papa, 89, of Madison, Illinois passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City.
She was born November 9, 1928 in Granite City, a daughter of the late John and Naomi (Dilger) Shable.
She married John William Papa in May 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison and he passed away on August 18, 2017.
She had worked with the Madison School District #12 and retired from the Venice Township after over 30 years of dedicated service as a secretarial clerk.
She was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Mary’s Church and enjoyed working in local politics, always trying to help get others out to vote. Louise truly enjoyed the company of her siblings and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John (Pat Edwards) Papa of St. Louis, Francis (Lisa) Papa of Glen Carbon and Christopher (Michelle Mehlis) Papa of Evanston, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jake, Karlo, Lena, Luka and Lilly; two great grandchildren, Scarlett and Henry; a sister, Shirley Kingsley of Granite City; a brother, William Shable of Granite City; her two best bosses ever, Andy Economy and Christ Pashoff; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Gloria Shable and Lucille Caban and Sylvia Theis.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
