Lola Wetzel age 92, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away at her home on Friday, May 6, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Lola was born on September 21, 1923 in Edwardsville, IL, daughter of the late Earl and Edith (Charron) Hopcroft.
Lola was a faithful and dedicated member the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, IL. On February 20, 1988, Lola married Olin Wetzel in Edwardsville, IL. She was a member of the Edwardsville Y.M.C.A. and she enjoyed painting, scrap booking and gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Lola loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her first husband, Elbert Niebruegge, whom she married on June 30, 1945. Elbert passed away on April 22, 1982.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Olin Wetzel of Edwardsville, IL; loving sons, Paul Niebruegge of Edwardsville, IL and Michael (Deborah) Niebruegge of Houston, TX; dear step-sons, Robert Wetzel of Quechee, VT and Rich (Tracy) Wetzel of Edwardsville, IL; proud grandmother to Alex Niebruegge, Nora Niebruegge and Megan Schuler; proud great-grandmother to Max Niebruegge, Brooks Niebruegge, Elizabeth Schuler and Anne Schuler; extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Edwardsville, IL.
In celebration of her life, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Hembruch officiating. Lola will be laid to rest next to Elbert at Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Edwardsville Mobile Intensive Care Unit Fund or to the Edwardsville Y.M.C.A. and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel and church.
