Leonard "Weezer" Wilson, 85 of Granite City passed from this life on Friday, October 21, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. Leonard was born on August 14, 1926 in Granite City. He served the Granite City community for nearly 34 years as a firefighter where he retired as a shift commander. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WW II where he earned a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the AmVets Post in Madison, Firemans Local Union #253 and Grace Point Church in Granite City. During his free time Leonard had a love of fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by and will be missed by his daughter; Tina Wilson of Granite City; son, Leonard & (Deborah) Wilson Jr. of Granite City; 6 grandsons, Danny Wilson, Matthew & (Erin) Wilson, Leonard & (Mallory) Wilson III, Mike & (Brandy) Holthaus, Nicholas Holthaus, Chad Wilson; granddaughter, Dawn & (Michael) Gonski; 4 step grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, Brayden Wilson, Liam Wilson, Lillian Wilson, Zachary Gonski, Andrew Gonski, Logan Gonski, Brooke Wilson, Drake Wilson, Cameron Wilson; 4 brothers, Jerry Wilson, David Wilson, Lloyd Wilson, Herman Wilson; sister, Roberta Coy; He was preceded in death by his parents, Draphus G. & Danie Helen (McIntosh) Wilson; his wife, Fay Marie (Roussan) Wilson, whom he married on June 1, 1947 and who passed on September 3, 2002; son, Danny Wilson; 3 sisters, Pearl Keck, Virginia Hirtz and Shirley Martin. Friends may call on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Lee Jackson officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City with military honor's. Memorials are suggested to the Back Stoppers.
