Kerry Thomas “Tom” Green passed peacefully from this world on October 21, 2017 with the love of his family surrounding him. Tom was born October 2, 1949 to Roy Lee and Myrtle Maxine (nee Martin) Green. He is survived by his faithful companion, Teddy, wife, Kathleen Marie, nee Lynn Green, daughter Kimberli Renae Green, sister Rebecca Lynn Green, granddaughter Keri Roberts (Portlyn) Kourtney Green, and Amanda Mouldon, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In his early career, Tom ran his own Television repair business before taking a position with RCAService Company. He then became a signal maintainer for the TRRA. His love for electronics led him to teach Electronics Engineering Technology at Ranken Technical Institute, where he was the Department Head and Telecommunications Manager. He retired from Ranken after 25 years of service.
As a charter member of Pontoon Baptist Church, Tom took pride in scripting the music program for services. His other hobbies included HAM radio operating and photography. He served as President of the Mississippi Valley Telecommunications Association and was a member of VICA, the Radio Club of America, Egyptian Radio Club, Association of Communication Technicians, NABER, Collinsville Area Camera Club. Licenses and certifications included an Advanced Amateur Radio License, Certified two-way radio operator, and he held a radio telephone operator’s license with Ship Radar Endorsement.
Tom was committed to his family and friends and was never more than a phone call away.
A visitation will be held Thursday October 26, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Illinois. Service will be Friday October 27, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Joshua Steely officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
