Karl E. Krug, age 79, of Glen Carbon, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Karl was born on January 30, 1938 in Cora, IL, a son of the late John Conrad Krug Sr. and Mary Ellen (Keeton) Krug.
Karl was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country. On January 24, 1999, Karl married Jeanette (Moller) Johnson in Las Vegas, NV. Karl had retired from Granite City Steel as a roller operator after many years of dedicated service. Karl loved going to auctions to buy antique cars. He also enjoyed working on cars, fishing and playing cards, especially playing pitch with his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Karl loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathie Krug; four sisters, Ruby Worthen, Velma Revelle, Roxie Kimbro and Nancy Johnson; three brothers, Willam, Conrad and Gerald Krug; one niece, Annie Krug and one nephew, Jack Krug.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette Krug of Glen Carbon, IL; loving children, Roylen Renee (Steve) Higgins of Valles Mines, MO, Cheryl (Marty Briggs) Meagher of Granite City, IL, Glenda (Mark) Bixler of Granite City, IL, Debbie (Larry) Earthal of Maryville, IL and Kenny Johnson of Glen Carbon, IL; dear brothers, Jack (Carrie Sue) Krug of Mitchell, IL and Robert (Vickie) Krug of Grantsburg, IL; proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way in October; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with Rev. Mark Maynard officiating. Interment will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL, with full military honors.
Memorial donations may be given to the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
