Joyce “Gayle” Carr, 82, longtime resident of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 from complications of pneumonia at Arlington Memorial Hospital while visiting in Arlington, Texas.
Gayle was born on May 27, 1936 in Vanduser, Missouri to Flora Bell (Parliman) and Charles Perry.
She was the youngest of eight children, who all preceded her in death, Charles Perry, Jesse Perry, Glen Perry, Ruby Hesselrode, Velma Presley and three siblings who died in infancy.
Gayle was the valedictorian of her high school class. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and GREAT grandmother. She worked as a secretary, office manager and homemaker. She made numerous good friends through her participation in St. Elizabeth’s parish, Red Hats, TOPS, bible study, book club and Our Healthy Circle.
Gayle married Bill Carr on June 1, 1957 and he preceded her in death on November 7, 1991.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Debbie and Mark Ryan, Bill Carr, Steve and Ruth Carr and Julie and Alan Girton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Zachary Edgar as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City or the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home.
