John William Arbogast, age 85, of Trenton, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO. John was born on December 26, 1931 in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Arnold and Leola (Womack) Arbogast.
On July 12, 1951, John married Eva Robertson, the love of his life in Granite City, IL, and Eva passed away on October 6, 1998. John was a Korean War veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. He had retired from Granite City Steel as a pipe welder with over forty years of dedicated service. John was a former member of St. Peter Evangelical United Church of Christ in Granite City, IL. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, golfing and even cutting his grass. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he was very proud of. John loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his kids, grandkids and his great-grandkids. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by one son, John Edward Arbogast; one grandson, John Dustin Arbogast; two sisters and a brother in infancy.
He is survived by his loving children, Colleen (Ron) Neussendorfer of Cold Springs, MN, Laura (Terry) Patyk of Lostant, IL, Kirk Arbogast and Liz Kroll of Trenton, IL and Christopher (Emily) Arbogast of Highland, IL; dear daughter-in-law, Sharon Arbogast of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Peter Evangelical United Church of Christ, 2101 Cleveland Blvd. Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with Pastor Matt Mimlitz officiating. John will be laid to rest next to Eva at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road, Granite City, IL, with full military honors.
Memorial donations may be given to the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) and donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
