John W. Allen, age 71, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. John was born on March 11, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, a son to the late John E. Allen and Daphne (Bolin) Allen.
On August 12, 1967, John married Nina Dimple Ingram, the love of his life at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. He was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City, IL, having served in many capacities over the years. In 2000, John retired from Systems Integration and Management Activity (SIMA) after a thirty-five year career as a personnel specialist and management analyst with agencies of the US Army. SIMA employees owed thanks to John for finding the provision of law that kept that agency from being relocated to Albama in 1997. John was extremely talented in many areas and was primarily interested in music, computers and electronics. He was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Stawiszynski and one sister-in-law, Nelda Schuchardt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Dimple Allen of Granite City, IL; brother, Ethan (Anne)Allen; two sisters; Bonnie Logsdon and Kathy Giggins; sister-in-law, Clabbie (Harry) Briggs; brother-in-law, Don Schuchardt; nephews, Harry Briggs III and Kyle Briggs; niece, Jordan Briggs; extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will follow at noon on Thursday, at Irwin Chapel with Pastor Steve Kendrick and Pastor Ben Ritz officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road, Granite City, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral chapel or can be mailed to the church at 1800 Pontoon Road, Granite City, IL 62040.
