John Peter Harizal Jr., age 64, of Granite City, IL, passed away on February 21, 2018 at his home. John was born on June 27, 1953 in Granite City, IL.
John is the son of the late John Harizal Sr. John attended Granite City High School and SIU Edwardsville, majoring in Journalism, where he was editor of The Alestle and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also an accomplished photographer for Focus Magazine in the 1970’s. He was one of the pioneers of the Chicago Improv movement under Del Close and Charna Halpern in the early 80’s. He was a member of the Improv troupe Cream of Wit. He taught Improv workshops counting Tim Meadows and Brian Doyle Murray among his students. He coached Yale University to an Improv-Olympic Championship. In his business life, he worked for Northern Trust Bank in Chicago and then Nuveen in marketing. He retired from the retail industry
He is survived by and will be missed by his mother; Dolores (Ropac) Harizal; brothers, Matt and (Tracy) Harizal of Pleasanton, CA, Phil and (Laurie) Harizal of Owasso, OK; nieces and nephews, Krystin and (Greg) Bottoms, Michael Harizal, Daniel (Crystal) Harizal, David Harizal, Allison Harizal, Samantha Harizal, Cameron Harizal.
In addition to his father John was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher J. Harizal and sister, Anne M. Harizal.
In celebration of John's life, services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Villa Marie Winery, 6633 East Main Street in Maryville, IL
