Jo Ann Burcky passed away peacefully at 9:22 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
She was born to Ivan and Alma Steider on September 15, 1931 in Metamora, IL.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill Burcky. Her brother, Dick Steider of Metamora, IL. Her son, Craig and his wife Cindy of Rockledge, FL. Her two granddaughters, Danielle and Adria Burcky of San Diego, CA.
She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City. She taught Sunday school, served on the Board of Deacons and the church Session. She was a regular worker in the church’s annual rummage sale. After graduating in 1953 from Bluffton University, she taught primary grades for thirty years in Metamora and Granite City school systems. She was a member of Minerva Women’s Club. She was an active member for over fifty years in the PEO organization serving in the various offices. She was last a member of Chapter LS in Edwardsville. She was very happy to get her hands dirty as she worked in our hosta garden. Her family and many friends will miss her huge, generous, and loving heart. She was an extremely caring and giving person. She has had a positive influence on our family and all she had contact with.
In celebration of her life, memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. Until 8:00 p.m. where services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 with Reverend Ritch Alexander officiating.
Following a private entombment at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, a lunch will be served at 12:00 noon at First Presbyterian Church, 2160 Delmar, Granite City.
Memorial Gifts may be given to the Chapter LS, PEO, Edwardsville, IL, Bluffton University or First United Presbyterian Church and may be accepted at the funeral home.
