Jerry B. Baugus, 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 5:24 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born February 21, 1935 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He married Virgie (Stanfill) Baugus on November 27, 1956 in Texas and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2000.
He retired from the Terminal Railroad after many years of dedicated service as a switchman. The United States veteran proudly served his country with the Air Force and was a member of the AMVETS in Pontoon Beach. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his days of fishing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by three children, Jerrye "Sissy" and Dennis Boyce, Joe Baugus and Terry Baugus, all of Granite City; seven grandchildren, Amy, Nicole, Jerri, Bryce, Tara, Nathan and Sissy; two great grandchildren, Camden, Carsyn, Joey and Madison; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Thomas Baugus and Mary "Molly" (Hardin) and Carl Morgan; two sons, Thomas Edward Baugus and Michael Edwin Baugus and one sister, Tommy Davidson.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or to the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home.
