Jean Kelahan, 92 of Troy, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Jean was born on February 28, 1925 in Granite City, Illinois; the daughters of the late Walter “Butch” and Gladys (Flaugher) Muir. Jean was a secretary to the purchasing agent at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon and a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. Jean enjoyed her days of attending H.O.P.E. luncheons and volunteered her time at Meridian Village helping wherever she could. Jean will be remembered for her loving heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
Jean is survived by and will be missed by her children; Kathy (Charles) Anderson of Troy, Illinois, Donna (Michael) Kirkpatrick of Arnold, Missouri, Terrance “Terry” (Nancy) Kelahan of Granite City, Illinois, James T. “Jim” (Diane) Kelahan of Edwardsville, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband; James E. Kelahan, whom she married on June 14, 1947; her son-in-law, Michael Kirkpatrick; her sister Thelma Hodges.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. In celebration of Jean’s life, services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Gibbons officiating at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 155 N. Main Street, in Glen Carbon. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to the benevolent fund at Meridian Village.
