James Lawrence Rhoades, 77, of Maryville, Illinois passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Evelyn’s House Hospice in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
He was born December 26, 1940 in San Diego, California, the son of the late James and Nettie (Buck) Rhoades and was raised most of his childhood in Antigo, Wisconsin. He married Judy (Kupczyk) Rhoades on May 12, 1962 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He retired from Boeing in St. Louis after 35 years of dedicated service in parts procurement.
He had served eight years with the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his years of playing slow pitch softball and being a part of “The Hawgs” team. He was proud to be an extreme fan of the Green Bay Packers and a follower of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues Hockey.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a brother-in-law, Greg Kupczyk of Franklin, Wisconsin; a special family friend, Veronica and her husband Brian Crippen of Marine; niece, Guida; other extended family and many friends throughout his lifetime he had met through his softball years, work history and social life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and George Rhoades and a sister, Guida Rhoades.
In accordance to his wishes, a private burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Celebration of life service will be held at Word of Life Tabernacle, 4870 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Brian Crippen officiating.
